Stories of Pregnancy & Birth over 44y

At least 90% of these stories pre-date the DE era of 1990, or were a complete surprise to the over 44y old mom-to-be. How can it be so rare, so impossible, such a miracle - when I can find so many??? My goal is to simply share stories I find online, for inspiration - to those trying - and comfort to those who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant! Sort of a "chicken soup for the TTC over 44 soul". Your stories & feedback are welcome!

Woman in 50s gives birth to twin boys

Sarbani Das Pal, 52 with twinsSital Das Pal, 60, and Sarbani, 52, had been trying to have a child since they married 35 years ago. The couple finally became parents on April 29 when Sarbani gave birth to twins.

“The process was long and difficult, but the mother and the babies are doing well. This is the first such case in India,” said Ranjit Chakraborty, a consultant gynaecologist at Bhagirathi Neotia Woman and Child Care Centre.

The couple from Durgapur had approached the hospital’s fertility clinic, Genome. “The woman had her menopause and her husband had low sperm count because of his age,” said Rohit Gutgutia, the doctor in charge of the clinic.

A 31-year-old woman was selected as egg donor. Both she and Sarbani were put on medication. Once ready, the eggs were retrieved from the donor and semen samples were collected from the husband. Sperms were injected into the eggs and the embryos transferred to Sarbani’s uterus.

After 32 weeks, Sarbani developed pregnancy-induced hypertension and jaundice, which made the doctors perform an emergency Caesarean section. The baby boys are now in the hospital’s special care section.

“The birth of our babies was the best moment in our lives,” said Sarbani.

“A woman’s ability to bear a child goes down by half after 40. She cannot bear a child naturally after menopause. Hence, the birth of the twins is special,” said Chakraborty.

“It is rare for a woman in her 50s to give birth. However, we have to keep in mind the social aspect of bearing children at an advanced age,” said city-based gynaecologist Bikash Banerjee.

My sister gave birth to her 1st at 46

My sister gave birth to her first child a month before she turned 46, several years after she first entered peri-menopause, and when they were not trying.

I had a child at 43 (my first), and tried an IVF [in vitro fertilization] that failed. I found an acupuncturist who specializes in infertility, and after six months of weekly acupuncture, herbs and lifestyle changes - I was pregnant. If you can find someone in your area, it is worth a try!

4492~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

My name is Nancy, I haven't posted on here in a while, but I will be 47 in July and my daughter is due in late August.
I'm starting my 24th week.

I am single, and decided to have a child for many reasons...... I conceived on 11/28/06 using my own eggs with donor sperm - this was simply an IUI [Intrauterine Insemination], so the doc just put the little swimmers "up there" at the time of ovulation, and it took!!

I'm thankful everyday for this miracle. I'm very excited, and definitely a bit nervous as well.

4493~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I have high FSH [follicle stimulating hormone] , don't know the exact number, and have been TTC [trying to conceive] for 4 months with a BFN [big fat negative - negative pregnancy test] .

I was BPF [big fat positive - postive pregnancy test] at 44, and had our first child at 45, so it is possible, have faith! We are trying for one more.

4494~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I got pregnant naturally at 45 and 46. We didn't do anything special to conceive. I know that, at the time, I never doubted that it was possible. Try not to worry.

I am carrying a perfect, healthy baby at 55

I didn't wish to post an announcement too soon. As I have not had a normal menstrual cycle since March 2005, and I am 55.

I am carrying a perfect, healthy and active baby girl due in late September, conceived 100% naturally. (approx. EDD 9/29)

At 18 weeks along, I feel wonderful and we are just ecstatic. My youngest is turning 17 this month. I am planning a home birth, hopefully in a tub of warm of water.

I didn't do anything special to become pregnant, except apply The Secret ~~ the Universal Law of Attraction. My last confirmed pregnancy ended in miscarriage in December 02, and I had several "chemical pregnancies".....

My husband and I were TTC [trying to conceive] since 1998 -- while I never gave up, we did stop "trying".

I simply convinced myself that this baby was possible, and have been so grateful for her presence even before she was conceived. I will keep you updated. - Debbie

48 years old, trying and I'm 5 days late. Just to let you know that today I toke another pregnancy test and it was positive. But I'll still want my doctor to do another test on Tuesday.- Lolly

4487~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I was 42 at the birth of my first child, and 45 at the second. I have 2 girls -Grace 4 and Isabella 18 months. Never regretted it once.

4888~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

At 46 I found my soul mate, and on December 25 2006 I got "knocked up" the old fashioned way. Both he and I had given up on finding someone, not to mention babies. This is my first.

4489~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I was in your shoes last year. I was 43 and pregnant with our 4th. My youngest was 10. I, however was the one who was unhappy and worried about the pregnancy. I dreaded the thought of having a baby. It took me a very long time to get used to being pregnant. I had to deal with many different feelings. I hoped it would go away, but it wouldn't.

Now, we have a beautiful 5 month little boy. I love him dearly. I marvel at everything he does. It brings me so much joy just to listen to his giggle, or see his smile, and hold his little hands and feet. My husband on the other hand was always OK with having him. He said that God had a plan. He was right.

4481~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

When I first brought my little baby home from the hospital, I couldn't believe how overwhelming it all felt. And I had a husband and we had prayed for 8 years for this baby.

Here I was at 45, a first time mother, with my little miracle child... and suddenly I realized I was STUCK with a completely dependant person who only knew how to communicate by screaming, and who completely dominated every aspect of my life.

4482~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

When I had my baby at 45, the doctors were worried about her nuchal fold being too big and a sign of Downs. They also did a sonogram on her heart in utero. My baby was born normal, and her heart is great.

Doctor's are very thorough especially if you have a good insurance company to pay for it. I also lost a baby, so I guess I really had 11 pregnancies.

Funny thing, I'd like to have another. We are open to it. Childbirth is normal and good for us.

4483~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I had my 10th baby at age 45. I am happy with all my children, and my last baby is a fine healthy girl. Having this baby made me healthier, because some new little person now depended on me.

After the birth, I lost weight and feel years younger. You'll never know, unless you're open to the new experience, what life will bring you. Don't let anyone scare you because you're older and wiser than you were 20 years ago.

4484~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

At 45, with a baby and four older children myself, I can say that it does not make me feel old. If anything I feel rejuvenated by it. I found my first child far more tiring than my fifth, because I worried more.

Would he sleep, was he growing, should I get that spinach down him? My new baby only likes porridge and who cares: if that's what he likes, he can have it.
