Scary Down's Syndrome Statistics?

Personally I find the statistics we get about Down's Syndrome somewhat confusing. So I translated them into percentages. I think it is all too easy to think of 1-80 as one in 80%, but it is not. 1-80 translates to 1.25 % for DS, or 98.75% chance of NOT having Down Syndrome... Maternal age as

When I started collecting these stories, I was just looking for 100 stories to back up my argument that pregnancy & birth over 44 years old, was not as uncommon as the media leads us to believe. Of course, for some, it may be too late without medical help. But it's not impossible for everyone, which is what I was being told - over and over and over again!

Who knew that it would grow into a mission, and take on a life of it's own? So many have posted the link on websites and forums all over the world - and for that I am grateful.

So I thought I would delve into my stats today, and tell you just some of the sites that have helped to bring my stories to the weary souls trying to have a baby "despite all odds"! As of today, the stories blog has had 19,134 hits.

Many hits are from the link in my sig.file in my forum postings. Here's a sampling:

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost our precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted there will be no more babies in our house.
